EdgarChristians are the only ones that can say Good Luck and mean it. We know where it comes from and it is Good indeed.

I would compare it to saying - God Bless you, or pray for me.

NeilGood points. When I catch myself saying "good luck" or anything remotely superstitious such as "knock on wood," I stop and correct my statement.

TimothyI'm the same way concerning the terms. I liked to use the term "God's providence!" It's a bit archaic but expresses the precise meaning of what I'm intending: God's will be done!

Johnny ODan,

This might shock you so please sit down... I (kind of) agree with you ;-)

But I'm the same in trying to remove the phrase from my vocabulary. There simply is no such thing. Although I obviously don't put it down to His will like you do.

I've been reading a book, (Tricks of the Mind by Derren Brown), which has a chapter that deals with probability. A lot of supposedly random or "lucky" events are simply bound to happen. It's just that when they happen to us they seem out of the ordinary, because we don't take into account the rest of the population of the planet where this event hasn't taken place.

You wouldn't like Derren Brown, Google him and you'll see why. Or look him up on youtube, he is very talented at what he does and makes no illusion that any of it is anything other than learned skills.

DanI've seen a couple of videos with Derren Brown, and they were funny. I remember one where he convinced a guy he wanted a BMX bike. It was good stuff. I don't know about his philosophy or anything, but I like his videos.

That guy was Simon Pegg, who is reasonably well known here in the UK. He wrote and starred in a couple of films, (Sean of the Dead and Hot Fuzz).

I gotta learn some of Derren's tricks.
Get the book, (link above). I hypnotised my son and taught him relaxation techniques to use before his exams. You'll be pleased to know that one of his A's was in Religious Education.. lol

Danlol maybe he can teach his dad something ;)

Hot Fuzz was a funny movie. I knew that guy looked familiar.

Didn't he also play a trick on Ricky Gervais or Stephen Merchant? I might be thinking of something else...

He should do Mr. Bean next.

LOL.

It covers all religions and none are taught as 'truth'. It's along the lines of "Christians believe...", Muslims believe...", "Hindus believe..." etc. So he doesn't have to believe to get an A, he just has to give good arguements for his points of view. All his own by the way, none given to him by me.

Didn't he also play a trick on Ricky Gervais or Stephen Merchant?
He did get Stephen Merchant, yes. (Who was in Hot Fuzz as Mr P Staker, with the missing swan. I am such a film geek as you'll see in the next answer...)

Him and the director Edgar Wright are in the process of writing the third film in what they call the "Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy". I don't know if you've seen Sean of the Dead, but in each of the films they use the lines,

"Do you want anything from the shops?"

"Yeah, a Cornetto". (A type of ice cream cone sold in the UK in case you don't get them over the pond)

In Sean of the dead it was a strawberry Cornetto - Red to signify all the blood from the Zombies.

In Hot Fuzz it was the original Cornetto, which is in a blue wrapper - Blue to signify the police uniforms.

The next one is Mint Choc Chip. So they have to make a film that invloves the colour green...

My son and I like Cornetto's and reffer to them as Seans, Fuzzes and Yet To Be's. What a pair of geeks... lol
