So who do you say your father is?

Tonight during our nightly devotional Q&A session when my kids get to ask me questions about the Bible, God and Theology I quoted the Gospel of John:

"You belong to your father the devil"...

Somehow this didn't sit too well with my daughter, being the great inquisitor that she is... she asked: Does it really say that?

Yes. I said. Where? she asked...

So I started paging through my ESV Bible... saying to myself... I'm thinking John 10... the sheep hear my voice ... No... I was like... gulp... maybe John 6 .... and at this point given that my 3 year old son was growing impatient...so I bit the bullet and said to her:

Go and get me my laptop. Let's google this thing...( i know!!!).

But there it was. This sweet Jesus...Full of Grace and Full of Mercy... One with the Father...Begotten. Not Made. telling some good ol' folk: Your father is el Diablo!.

"“If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father the devil (John 8:44). "

Now, if we can get seminary schools start teaching more of this perhaps there would be more Christians... oh wait, no one can come to him unless the father draws him... hmmmmm.
