Don't Hate me: But I just contributed to the Atheists fund - Again
By Edgar on Feb 22, 2010 | 1139 viewsAs some of you know, I've been trying to make my way through Jerry Coyne's Why Evolution is true and it's been hard.
I blame my lack of interest in the fact that I got the audio version of the book. At the time I bought it, I thought it would be so cool and easier to learn about evolution via audio but in retrospect - a serious scholar like myself (cough!) needs to see the words on paper.
So today on my way from work, I stopped over at the bookstore and got myself a paperback copy of Why Evolution is true.
As soon as I got on the train on my way back home, I opened up the book and put the audio version on and -- boy oh boy -- I'm loving it. Hearing the words and following the text on the book makes me feel like a true scholar. Like I'm really paying attention.
And thus, Jerry Coyne is now a bit richer thanks to me.

I know what you mean about "seeing the words", it's much easier to re-read a paragraph, than to try and rewind to exactly the right part.
And to make you feel better I actually bought a Bible (in a second hand charity shop) last month. My daughter is getting to the age where she might understand better and I've advised that she gives it a go, before making her mind up. I occasionally open it myself... cracking stories.
I'm thinking that this book is taking me so long to read that by the time I'm done with it... Evolution might actually be true! LOL.
Who's http://derrenbrown.co.uk/blog? Is that a friend of yours? Looks like an interesting blog.
Giving your daughter a bible will backfire on you. She's going to fall in love with that Jesus character...He's like a superhero... but much better!
Derren Brown can best be described as a mental illusionist. You can find some of what he does on YouTube, but he also runs a blog which likes to discredit bad science, so called psychics, mediums and that kind of nonsense. I recently saw his live stage act and met him afterwards, he spoke with me until I was done, didn't try to rush me so he could move on posed for pictures and even phoned my daughter. Top, top bloke.
