38,000 Christian Denominations and Jesus Commandment to love one another
By E. I. Sanchez on Jan 18, 2010 | 348 views | 7 feedbacks »Although urban legend has the number of Christian denominations at 38, 000 or so, I was thinking: So what.
Let's say we had that many. Wouldn't that be a great testament to Jesus' command to "love one another"?
Think about it: how easy would it be for us to go sunni-shiite on each other?
When Rome and Constantinople split, there were no fireworks. No Fiesta. No Wrestlemania.
They simply looked at each other and said: Good Luck with that!

Isn't it more loving to split into denominations than pretend we all believe the same things when we don't (i.e., Roman Catholicism)? We have to be true to our consciences, and love God first, or else we can't love one another. Thus, we have splits due to our imperfect understandings.
The number is a myth anyway since it includes JW's, LDS, etc. among Christan denominations. It might as well include "Mohammedans" since they used to be considered heretics too. James White has addressed this issue on his show and blog. Roman Catholic apologists like to throw this number out. However, talk to 10 Roman Catholics, and you have 11 different denominations, most likely without a single one of them being able to interpret everything they are supposed to believe.

I love it when I hear two people who are getting divorced say "We're still friends"
True to our conscience: How do we KNOW we have informed consciences? "I'm supposed to feel happy" We sin out of a habit so often, it doesn't penetrate and becomes habit. Our conscience becomes dull.
...According to World Christian Encyclopedia Oxford Press (somebody had to publish) there are over 38,000 different Christian churches. WHY? Individualism is "my intrepretation" "my...fill in the blank"
PS It seems that the only politically correct group to bash is Catholicism...everybody else is "hands off"

Yeah, the Catholicism does take it on the chin more often... could it be that remembering so many other 'denomination names' is hard?

There are other groups fit to bash. All Christians are fair game, as are white men. The The RC church tends to make a big deal out of being attacked.
Roman Catholics should be aware that absconding with the word "Catholic" is offensive to Christians who are truly of the one holy, apostolic and "catholic" church (i.e., they don't follow Rome).
Thus, in my opinion, it isn't fair to use only the word Catholic to describe the Roman Catholic church, which isn't catholic at all. If anything, we should drop the word Catholic when referring to Romanism and popery.

Too late to stop that my friend. What about the Inquisitions?

At leas the inquisitions gave you a trial and 'persuade' (ahem!) you to repent.
