The Pluralization of Christmas
By E. I. Sanchez on Dec 9, 2009 | 446 views | 6 feedbacks »This morning I attended a "Winter Program" at the Park District where my son attends preschool. At the beginning, I didn't get that most of the songs were about Christmas but had no "Christmas" word in them.
But then that old tune came on: We Wish you a Merry Christmas. And the "We wish you a Merry Christmas" had now become We Wish you a Happy New Year... We Wish you a Happy New Year ... We Wish you a Happy New Year ...
I finally got it. All these songs were missing the reason for the season: Christ.
Now - this is not something new. People have been sterilizing Christmas for a long time but I thought my little community was safe.
And yes - one could say it's karma. After all, we took December 25 from the pagans and now the Pluralists are taking it away from us. Sniff.
When I complained to the wife about the "Happy New Year" interference she replied: It's called a "Winter Program" not a "Christmas Show"... I predict one day it will be called a Christmas Show and it won't have anything to do with a Savior Being Born... What are your predictions?

Only with the PC schools, they have to change the lyrics to the songs. Then the kids will hear the real songs and wonder what they were changed. "Who is this Jesus they won't tell us about in school?"
A few weeks back, we actually decided to take our kid off that preschool program - for one - it was too expensive and now we have another reason.
And yes - one could say it's karmaIsn't Karma a Buddhist idea...lol?
This is why we shouldn't have publicly-funded schoolsCould you imagine the kind of nonsense that would be taught in shools if they were publicly funded? New Earth Creationism, Religious Fundamentalism, Political Fundamentalism. Some rich benofactor would be able to influence what children are taught, purely because they can fund it?
Publicly funded schools have their flaws, but they are the best way of educating.
As for the thread, I couldn't agree more. Yes Christianity hijacked the pagan holiday, (likewise at Easter), but that doesn't detract from the fact that CHRISTmas is now recognised as a CHRISTian festival. Surely there's a hint in the name?
The thing about all these PC changes is that they are usually made to stop offence from being caused, not beause they caused offence. I haven't heard any Muslim, Hindu, Sikh or other religious people making complaints or saying they are offended, at least not here in the UK. In fact after such changes are made, there are usually non Christain leaders speaking out and agreeing that it is ridiculous.
I'm an Atheist and I have absolutely no problems with Christmas, (it gets me time off work). When my daughter was at Primary School and they did The Nativety every year, I had no problems with her taking part. (She was usually the narrator due to having a reading age of 14 when she was 9).
I don't have to believe it is true, but it is part of my culture and I enjoy it.
LEAVE CHRISTMAS ALONE!!!
Happy Ramadan!
