Richard Dawkin's Greatest Show On Earth
By E. I. Sanchez on Oct 13, 2009 | 802 views | 5 feedbacks »In case you missed it, Prof. Dawkins visited the Colbert Report to discuss his newest book: The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution.
Watch below as Colbert puts him to the test.
Incidentally, our frequent reader Johnny challenged me to give The Greatest Show on Earth a listen so I will purchase the audio book from iTunes soon and I'll keep you updated on my progress there...

Hi Eileen...
First of all, you should know that Humans didn't evolve from Monkeys... the latest research actually shows that Monkeys might have evolved from us...
but your point is valid... at what point did we decide to wear clothes? No other Animal needs them.

Gen 3:7
Then the eyes of both of them opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

If we evolved from monkeys...We didn't evolve from monkeys. Humans and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor. It would have been more like an ape than a human, but it wasn't a monkey. Did you know we share more DNA with Chimpanzee's than Chimpanzee's do with Gorilla's? This is because the Human/Chimp "common ancestor" is closer than the Chimp/Gorilla.
...why do we wear clothes? What other animal is as spread around different climates of the world us we are? Look at the difference in clothing between the indigenous populations inside the Arctic Circle, to those on the Equator? It ranges from completely covered, to completley naked except for occasional covering, (for protection, or decoration) of the genitals.

No other Animal needs them.Exactly... You answered your own question Edgar. On a related note, you'll find an excellent explanation of why we have goosebumps in The Greatest Show on Earth. A little left over from our ape descendants who had fur.
As for the clip, Dawkins already posted it on his own site where it was watched with great delight. My favourite bit is when Dawkins says, "As I explained to you when I was last on..." And Colbert interupts with, "I WASN'T LISTENING". He is a brilliant parody of all things Fox, Republican and ignorant. Try and find his interview with Michael Behe, the Creationist Scientist, (an oxymoron if ever there was one). I think you'll see HIM being taken to task with a little more conviction...

Hi Johnny,
yeah - I stand corrected. The theory was that humans evolved from Chimps...but latest research says that we evolved separately from different common ancestor.
Here you go- link to National Post
