Engineering Achievements: 20th vs. 21st Century - Where will you be?

I must say that the following makes me so jealous. Nostalgic. I wish I could borrow more time to see all of these goals and dreams come alive. Reverse-Engineering the Brain sounds so exciting!!!

In a speech to engineers about taking pride in [their] profession, [Robert W. Lucky] mentioned two lists of engineering achievements put together by the National Academy of Engineering. The older list ranks the 20 greatest engineering achievements of the last century. The newer list consists of 14 grand challenges to be accomplished by engineers in the present century (ieee.org).

Wanted: Stephen C. Meyer vs. Jerry A. Coyne Debate

I've been listening to Jerry Coyne's Why Evolution is True and it's really an interesting little book.

I would totally love to have Prof. Coyne debate Stephen C. Meyer (from the Discovery Institute) and hear what Meyer has to say about Coyne's observations on evolutionary theory.

60 Minutes distastefully disdains Noah's Story

While waiting for the Amazing Race (the wife is a big fan), I caught 60 Minutes': Iraq's Marshlands: Resurrecting Eden.

CBS Image: Iraq's Marshlands

The story started with great shots of the valley between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and the marshlands that beautifully decorate the landscape.

The story continued and CBS dazzled me with more HD video and I listened carefully as I was re-fed the urban legend that the Tigris and Euphrates valley was the cradle of civilization where agriculture, the alphabet and the wheel were invented. Yeah, yeah, yeah...

This is why it's important to distinguish between catholic, Catholic, and Roman Catholic.
