Long Story Short: 10 Minute Devotions

Today marks the beginning of our family devotion time. A local church gave us a copy of Long Story Short: Ten-Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God and I'm taking no prisoners.

We're starting with volume one: The Old Testament (Volume two covers the New Testament - whole Bible devotional takes like 2+ years to complete).

We had our first family get together today after dinner and we can't wait til tomorrow.

Awesome. Family devotions are super important these days when most adults don't even know what Christianity is.

We have devotions as well, but just follow a one-year NT plan, reading a chapter per day, excluding Lord's Days. We'll also memorize the Heidelberg Catechism in three years, Lord willing.

hey dan,

I purposely didn't reply to see how this week would go.

it's a challenge for sure. the oldest kid loves it while the younger space in and out. the younger kids will just have to learn to discipline themselves and take it seriously. hope they will see how the oldest behaves and want to follow the path.

other than that, this has given us a family time to come together, share stories, and pray together which we weren't doing much before.

Have you tired delaying the prayer until right before bed? That works for us. The kids tend to be tired enough to pay attention.

We might give this a try. So far we're kind of accepting that the younger ones will not be paying attention so we focus on the older one.
