God Wants You to Eat Turkey

In grade school, I was taught that Thanksgiving was the gracious Indians giving food to the Pilgrims so they could survive in America. We were told that the Pilgrims left England to find a better life. The teachers didn't mention the incredible Christian devotion of the Pilgrims. Later, in college, it was popular to bash Christopher Columbus and all people of European origin for acts such as slavery, genocide and warfare against defenseless, peace-loving Indians. Thanksgiving was a gracious act by the Indian saviors without whose help the Pilgrims would surely have died. By the grace of God, I had enough presence of mind not to swallow the liberal, secular propaganda.
Thanksgiving was originally a Christian holiday (see the first fact). Although the anti-Christian History Channel cannot bring itself to mention the words "Christian" or "God", they do admit the original thanksgivings were "religious". "Religious" is code for Christian on this site, unless they are bashing Christians, when they will freely use the word "Christian".
Did you know that the first Thanksgiving was a triumph of capitalism? The Indians did teach the Pilgrims how to farm, fish and hunt the local crops and animals. The Pilgrims reciprocated by sharing their bounty with the Indians in a feast made possible by the precepts of capitalism. The Pilgrims tried and abandoned socialism faster than a Democrat can claim voter intimidation. Check out the following quote from William Bradford, Governor of Plymouth Colony:
"The experience that we had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years...that by taking away property, and bringing community into a common wealth, would make them happy and flourishing - as if they were wiser than God. For this community [so far as it was] was found to breed much confusion and discontent, and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. For young men that were most able and fit for labor and service did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men's wives and children without any recompense...that was thought injustice."
Bradford also has the audacity to mention God. Shocking!
Take a gander at George Washington's Thanksgiving proclamation. *Gasp* He mentioned God! Where was the ACLU when we needed them? The Religious Right must have altered the early documents! Pat Robertson invented God in the 1980s!
The point is that we can remember the Almighty in our Thanksgiving feasts before eating. America's Thanksgiving celebration was meant to be a day of giving thanks to God, and asking for forgiveness and divine protection for our nation.

Only if he had had the foresight to type: "Jesus" or "Christian", then we would've been alright...
On a related note, Turkey is still one of the best meats to eat. It has lots of vitamins, proteins, and cancer fighting molecules. Eat Turkey!
